The Fifth Annual Frank Polack Memorial Ride for Hospice of Marion County takes place on Sunday May 20, 2012 at 8 a.m.

An anticipated 250 participants will enjoy a trip to the Heart of Horse Farm Country, starting and ending at Hospice of Marion County’s Education Center. Registration starts at 7 am, if you have not already registered.

Riders pay $40 to enjoy a fully staffed and SAG’D 80 mile route, 62 mile route, or 30 mile route. A small bag of grocery items is also required, and all non- perishable items collected will be donated to Interfaith Emergency Services the day of the event.

Registration fees include a light breakfast, a busting at the seams event gear bag, and lunch. On line registration is provided at Hospiceofmarion.com, Active.com, by mail, or riders may register the morning of the event.

For the past four years, Ocala Eye has encouraged bicycle rider participation as a way to raise funds to help Hospice of Marion County continue its mission of providing quality, compassionate care to families in Ocala/Marion County who are facing end-of-life issues. At the ride, we will announce the winner of great prizes for the most money raised.

So don’t forget to ask your friends, family, and co-workers for help fundraising for this event. Donations in your name can be made on line, by mail, by telephone, or on the morning of the event.

It’s that time again everyone! The Hammerhead 100 is back!

Saturday (May 12th) sees you off at an 8am start. If the Full Monty (100 miles) is a little scary, there are also 25 and 50 mile options for you to enjoy.  The classes are as follows: Solo 25 (Male & Female), Solo 50 (Male & Female), Solo 100 (Male & Female), 2 person Co-ed 50 & 2 person relay 100. There are free T shirts for the first 200 entries.

The nearest campsites are Santos Trailhead Campground or the Ross Prarie Trailhead. Camping info HERE.

Dont forget… this Saturday is the Cycle for Success ride to raise money for college scholarships funded by the Take Stock in Children program.  There is a ride for everyone this year.  A family ride with a safety fair and helmet give-away for the kids.  Riders can also choose from a 35 or 63 mile route and will enjoy a fully supported course (Sag stops and chase vehicles) as well as breakfast and lunch.  Raffles will be held and there is a goodie bag for each registered rider as well as a Tshirt.  Registration can be done online via Active.com or go to the PEFMC.org to download a registration form.

The ride begins at Lake Weir Middle School this Saturday, April 14, 2012.  You can register the morning of the ride for $45.  Registration does begin at 7am with a 7:45am Kick-off.

The Fat Tire Festival (and all of the excitement that comes with it) is THIS weekend! The FTF is full of activities, from Guided Rides, to Bike Demos, to a fully stocked Vendor Village. The craziness starts on Friday at noon and formally wraps up Sunday at 2 pm. There is something for everyone and we will see everyone there!

Hey everyone! Just wanted to remind you that the 12 Hours of Santos endurance race is this weekend, on Saturday the 18th. Come for the fun and come for the riding. There still is time for early registration, but be sure to get it in as soon as possible! Check out Goneriding.com for your online registration.

This year’s 12 Hours of Santos is less than a month away! It is scheduled for February 18th (a Saturday), from 10 AM to 10 PM on the Vortex trails.

From the Base classes to Women’s / Co-Ed classes to Single Speed classes, there is a class for everyone! There are also 4 person teams, 2 person teams and solo classes. Bring a friend and make it twice the fun!

The events start on Friday, the 17th, with late registration and packet pickup from 5 to 6 PM. Open riding and camping are allowed! A complementary Breakfast and Dinner are provided for all riders.

On Race Day, 8 AM brings the last of the packet pickups and 9 AM ushers in the 12 Minutes of Santos Kid’s Race. 10 AM marks the start of the 12 Hours!

Come out to Lake Weir at the Carney Island park area for our next Triathlon meetup.  We will be heading out for a sprint distance bike and run.  (Extra loops are available for those who wish to ride longer) Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012 meet us out there at 7am.  Depending upon temperatures, we may skip the swim and do a bike and run.  Either way, please call the shop for more info.  Ask for Chris at 352-307-2453.  We will be going through the courses set up by the HITS Triathlon event coming to Lake Weir March 24-25, 2012.

Happy New Year…  We will be open all day New Year’s Eve.  Our hours on New Year’s Day are 12 til 5pm.  However, please join us for a breakfast Trail ride Sunday morning at 8:30a to celebrate the New Year.  Meet at the front of the shop.  We will have Bagels and Coffee then head out to the trails behind the shop for a fun ride at 9a.  Hope to see you there.
